Krastina (Kris) and I are a husband and wife team who came to San Antonio from my retirement from active service in the US Army. Kris is a professional Bulgarian Folk Singer and voice trainer. She has traveled the world as a member of the Bulgarian Voices Angelite - The world famous female choir from Sofia, Bulgaria. Kris studied music at New Bulgarian University, a private university based in Sofia and has several national Bulgarian recordings. She continues with her vocal craft by conducting private lessons and has performed for local cultural events. Kris will also, upon request, sing Bulgarian Folk songs at our boutique located in the Stone Oak area of San Antonio.

I am originally from Shreveport, Louisiana; enlisted in the Army in 1988, and retired as an Army Officer with 25 years of military and civil service with the Army. My experience includes service in the Infantry, Communications, Recruiting and Inspector General Branches of the Army. My experiences also gave me an opportunity to live and travel throughout Europe and Asia over 17 of my 22 years in uniform. Kris and I met during my last overseas tour in South Korea where she lived and worked for over seven years. Upon my retirement, we lived there together for a short time, following the birth of our oldest son, Edmond. God then led us to San Antonio where Kris gave birth to our second son, Ian.

Our long-term plan was to start a small European-styled cafe here in San Antonio, highlighting our love for European styling and the small, yet cozy nature of small businesses in Europe. In our younger years, we both gained experience with food and beverage services and loved serving and working with people.

During my business studies, Kris and I decided to start preparation to setup operating a small café. Our research included franchising and licensing opportunities, but we were struck by visiting which carried chocolate products. Kris and I immediately started looking for opportunities to work with chocolates, which we also both love. During our business search, we found Choicolate – Artisan Chocolates, which had been established by a South Korean couple, Young Yang and Jamie Choi, the business namesake, in 2010 at our current location. The previous owners were interested in returning to South Korea to be close to aging relatives, therefore, selling the business. Kris and I loved the concept, the products, and we had an immediate personal connection with the Korean name.

Since buying the Choicolate, pronounced Choi-ko-lah-t, in March 2014, we’ve made it our own. Kris learned and perfected the recipes while I’ve worked in promotions, marketing, logistics and other aspects of the business. Kris has expanded our productline to include new artisan chocolate bars, smoothies, chocolate-dipped cookies, and dipped strawberries. We are proud that our products are handmade made with all-natural ingredients and premium European chocolates. Everything is made at the Boutique, which we believe makes our products unique. We have several one-of-a-kind truffles as well as our handmade toffees –CacaoNibs & Coffee Toffee and Almond Toffee. These creations have their following and have continued a mainstay of the menu since 2010.

We are grateful, by God’s grace, for the success of the products. Considering all that we have learned in the business, our hope is to exceed God’s purpose for us through further expansion of the products through reaching more people. We’ve remained very selective with product ingredients and will continue to produce all of our product here in San Antonio. We believe in the importance of getting to know our customers
