Dave Mulligan, Poitín expert and owner of Bar 1661 in Dublin, the world's first Poitín-focused cocktail bar, will provide a history of Ireland's first spirit, from its humble monastic roots which predate whiskey, to its illegal production throughout the country for over 300 years. There are key moments in Poitín's storied past, but they all lead to its eventual legalization in 1997. Learn how the spirit has evolved and changed in the kitchens of many Irish homes, as it was kept out of sight from the British Crown. We'll look at Poitin's re-introduction to the Irish market and to spirits enthusiasts all over the world, while we experience a small tasting to demonstrate Poitín's versatility.
