Rum is arguably the most diversely made spirit, yet rum is often referenced by colour. An absurdity like this can be grossly misleading to bartender and consumer alike. The diverse methods in play reflect both the traditional and modern ways of rum making and there exists no meaningful communication to distinguish between the two. The Gargano classification splits rums between traditional and modern methods and gives an entirely new insight on an otherwise bewildering category.
